Biography

Heather MacKenzie is an artist, a photographer, and hand-paints her photos as well. Most of her works have a quality of impressionism. She creates ethereal works that dance with subtle color which evoke mystery.

Heather grew up on Cape Cod. After high school, she went to Mass. College of Art and Design. Upon graduating with a B.F.A. in film, she moved to L.A. and worked in motion pictures, which landed her a position with the ABC Network. After working in a few positions, she became a news camerawoman, traveling “in the field” documenting historical events. She covered the first Holocaust Reunion in Israel in 1981, President Reagan’s cross-country re-election campaign, the release of hostages from Iran, the Summer and Winter Olympics in ’84 and ’88, twenty-five years of Academy Awards coverage, the Oakland and Northridge earthquakes, Super Bowls, NFL and college games, both Dodger’s World Series games, Romania’s orphans, major brush fires, the L.A. riots, O. J. Simpson’s criminal and civil trials, Princess Diana’s funeral and Michael Jackson’s court battles, to name a few.

While working and traveling with a demanding schedule for ABC7, she also earned a Master of Fine Arts degree, pulling a fulltime load of graduate courses at UCLA. Heather always found the time to create art and photography, launching many successful shows, from Hollywood to Cape Cod. She is also an accomplished poet and writer. Heather now lives on the Cape where she is inspired by its beauty and wildlife.

Her creativities have been recognized with numerous honors. She maintains a studio at “The 204,” (previously known as the Harwich Cultural Center, Studio #114). Her art can also be found at Local Color Gallery in Chatham.
