Heather MacKenzie is an artist and photographer who has an emotional link with her subjects. Her award-winning images evoke feelings as well as capture the viewer’s imagination.

Heather grew up on Cape Cod, and went to Massachusetts College of Art. Her philosophy is “Life is a canvas, make everything art and make art out of everything.” At MassArt, she never took a painting class, although she was accepted into the Fine Arts division. Instead, Heather was attracted to photography and filmmaking. After graduating with a B.F.A., she moved to Los Angeles, and because of her film background, she landed a position with the American Broadcast Company, known as the ABC Network.

Heather became one of the first female videographers in news and embarked on a career with ABC, traveling many countries while documenting historical events. She covered the first Holocaust Reunion in Israel in 1980, President Reagan’s cross-country reelection campaign, the release of hostages from Iran, the Summer and Winter Olympics of ’84 and ’88, twenty five years of Academy Awards coverage, the Oakland and Northridge earthquakes, Super Bowls, NFL and college games, both Dodgers World Series, Romania’s orphans, O. J. Simpson’s criminal and civil trials, Princess Diana’s funeral, Michael Jackson’s court battles, the L.A. Riots; a small sample of the many events. She is the recipient of multiple prestigious awards for her videography and art.

While working and traveling under a demanding schedule for ABC7, she also earned a Master of Fine Arts degree, pulling a full-time load of graduate courses in TV and Film studies, from the Theater Arts School at UCLA. Heather always found the time to create with her photography and painting. She launched many successful shows from Hollywood to Cape Cod.

Ms. MacKenzie survived a serious health threat and left her demanding job of 32 years at ABC/Disney on the West Coast, to follow her dream of making a living as an artist on Cape Cod. She paints images that capture a feeling or uses her camera to take painterly images. Heather loves Impressionism, especially Monet, Cassatt, Renoir and van Gogh. She finds inspiration in beauty and hopes her expressions give joy to those who own and appreciate her paintings and photography.
